About Moment Energy

Independent energy is here. Help us deploy it.

Energy should be free. Free from aging grids, fragile supply chains, and unnecessary extraction. At Moment Energy, we’re building a world where clean power is abundant, affordable, and uninterrupted for everyone.

The world doesn’t need another promise about energy; it needs proof that a freer future is possible. Moment Energy is the pragmatic liberator of power, the only company certified to turn the largest untapped energy supply into independent energy.

Now is the moment. While the industry scraps millions of batteries with decades of life left, we put them to work by repurposing large-format batteries into advanced battery energy storage systems that deliver real-world impact.

We were told second-life batteries would never be safe enough or scalable enough. We didn’t argue, we engineered the solution. Today, Moment Energy delivers 5x the energy density and holds the certifications required to deploy energy independence at scale.

Now is the moment. Join us.

Want to make a positive impact on the world?

The Opportunity

Moment Energy is seeking a high-impact Battery Evaluation Lead to spearhead our new Austin-based R&D hub. This role is ideal for a technical leader who can drive “blue sky” R&D while building the operational foundation for a world-class rapid prototyping and battery evaluation facility.

You will lead a team of engineers and technicians focused on battery characterization, destructive testing, and the development of our Austin “Bunker” thermal runaway test site. Your work will help shape Moment Energy’s future battery-agnostic platforms and ensure we continue advancing the circular battery economy.

Responsibilities and Duties

Battery Evaluation & Market Landscape

The primary mission of the Austin facility is to reduce Moment Energy’s dependency on battery supply by creating a comprehensive pipeline of batteries for BESS products.

OEM Pack Teardowns: Lead the physical evaluation, teardown, and cycling of various automotive EV pack types to create a comprehensive battery physical market landscape that informs our engineering.
The Market Landscape: Catalog and store a physical and digital "museum" of EV battery architectures and designs to evaluate their suitability for repurposing.
Technical Characterization: Utilize battery pods equipped with cyclers to test performance, health, and electrical characteristics of various modules and packs.

OEM Point of Contact: Act as the primary technical liaison with automotive OEMs to secure hardware, documentation, and early access to next-gen battery tech. Travel to OEM facilities for battery workshops and relationship building.

Establish the Austin R&D Hub: Support the build-out of a 10,000 sqft facility featuring cyclers, teardown areas, and an off-site fire testing area for thermal runaway R&D.

Safety & Abuse Testing (The Austin Bunker)

You will manage our dedicated "Bunker" facility outside of Austin to lead Moment Energy’s fire safety R&D and reduce reliance on third-party testing.

Thermal Runaway R&D: Conduct module and pack-level fire tests to establish safety baselines for new battery types.
Sample Preparation: Manage the specialized preparation required for thermal runaway and abuse testing.
BESS-Level Fire Testing: Act as the primary site for Moment Energy’s high-stakes safety vetting, reducing the cost and scheduling delays associated with third-party testing.

Team Build-Out & Leadership

As the first leadership hire for the Austin hub, you are responsible for hiring and cultivating the talent required to make this facility a success.

Team Leadership: Build out and direct a high-speed team (engineers and technicians) to determine which batteries are best for future BESS product designs.

Mentorship: Provide technical guidance for the Austin team, fostering a culture of rapid iteration and excellence.

The Candidate

Elite Pedigree: You are likely a Senior Lead or Manager from a top-tier EV or energy storage organization ready to take on more ownership and build your own team.

Engineering Background: 8+ years of experience in battery engineering, with a bachelor’s in mechanical, electrical, or similar.

Battery Deep-Dive: Expert knowledge of battery pack design, cell characterization, and high-voltage electrical architectures.
Scaling & Builder Experience: Experience helping build or scale teams, systems, or facilities in fast-paced environments, with the ability to establish operations in new markets and foster a culture of rapid iteration.
Program Management: Strong background in managing complex technical programs from concept through physical prototyping and safety certification.

Safety is our Foundation

We prioritize the safety of our products, customers, employees, and the general public above all else. From the workshop to the field, we maintain the highest standards for our batteries in testing manufacturing and deployment, and daily operations. Safety is not only about procedures—it is about vigilance, responsibility, and speaking up when something does not feel right.

Safety is everyone's responsibility. We follow safety protocols, use proper equipment, and continuously improve our systems to prevent risks before they occur. If something is unsafe, we stop work and address it.

Safety also means protecting our colleagues, customers, and communities by designing reliable products, maintaining safe workspaces, and ensuring our work is done carefully and responsibly.

We’re Building a Greener Future Together:

We infuse passion for our cleantech mission into every aspect of our work and incorporate fun into the workplace. We motivate one another, celebrate our successes and embrace eco-friendly practices to reduce our carbon footprint.

We Prioritize our Customer’s Needs:

We place our customers at the core of everything we do, ensuring that every decision considers their needs and aims to provide increased value to them. We provide reliable support for our customers, every step of the way.

We’re Open, Honest and Accountable:

We prioritize open and honest communication to foster mutual understanding, strengthen knowledge sharing, and reduce miscommunication within the team. We admit when we’ve made a mistake, and remedy our actions. We transparently communicate outcomes whether good, bad, or unexpected.

We Think and Act like Owners:

We’re self-starters that proactively embrace new challenges along with personal and collective ownership of responsibilities in the organization. We focus on growth, not titles, and we do what needs to be done.

We Treat Everyone with Respect:

We actively listen, share openly, and work together towards common goals. We treat one another with mutual respect to cultivate an inclusive environment where everyone feels accepted, supported, and heard. We keep an open mind and are willing to learn.
